GAMEweeks 1-3 overview: gameweek 3 review

Gameweek 3-
Gameweek points: 91
Overall Points: 250
Overall rank: 98,670
Gameweek rank: 236,715
Free transfers: 2
Transfers made: 1
This week marked possibly my best overall ranking for quite some time if not ever and capped off a great first three weeks, however, I am not getting carried away as my team has issues and there is a long way to go but a good start is always helpful and I will absolutely take it at this point!
Ahead of Gameweek three I used one of my two free transfers which I have accumulated over the first few weeks to move on from the 4 million nightmare of Valentin Barco to another 4 million defender. I decided on Wout Faes in the end after he has more attacking threat and clean sheet potential than Harwood-Bellis of Southampton and looks the best other 4 million option. I was also tempted to move Quansah on for a 4 million but want a better rotation so will wait. Unfortunately, his price has dropped again so he is now only 4.3 million in value.
For my starting lineup I did decided to bench Joao Pedro which ended up costing me as he scored against Arsenal and picked up all three bonus points although he did also get a yellow card for a -1. I am still happy with this decision, despite missing out on his eight points because the other players I played instead had better fixtures and I still managed a good points total.
Starting in defence, Dean Henderson finally returned with four points, as although Chelsea scored against Crystal Palace he made six saves so got two saves points. Trent once again picked up a clean sheet in Liverpool’s 3-0 away victory over Manchester United for a six point haul, this is now his and Liverpool’s third clean sheet in a row to start the season. Antonee Robinson picked up another assist but also a yellow card so he earned me four points. However, unfortunately Man City conceded again against West Ham so Gvardiol only scored two points.
Midfield was a mixed bag as all my budget options in Morgan Gibbs-White, Emile Smith Rowe and Morgan Rogers scored a combined five points as Gibbs-White was booked. However Eberechi Eze finally returned for me and many other managers with the equalising goal against Chelsea and three bonus points, scoring 10 in total. With Mohamed Salah’s electric form against Manchester United I was very tempted to captain him but in the end went with Erling Haaland. With both players scoring 17 points either would have been fine as captain. Although Haaland netted his second hat trick in two games against West Ham United and all three bonus points again for 17 points total. Salah haunted Man United again with a goal, two assists and all three bonus points for his 17 points. I got 34 points total from Haaland due to the armband being on him. While my final forward Alexander Isak finally scored for Newcastle against Tottenham in the 2-1 win for nine points, rounding off another great week for me for the second week in a row.

This Gameweek marks the first time this season where I will publish multiple blog posts. The first will be a Gameweek preview of my personal plans and some transfer plans and thoughts on players that will be good picks for your teams as well as those who I personally think are being overhyped.
With the first international break of the season came a welcome break from FPL which is always nice, however, now it’s time to get back to it ahead of Gameweek four. Over the international break I was monitoring the injury situation for players currently on my team and players on my watch list.
Coming into gameweek four while there is currently the 9th all-time most wildcards active across FPL I am pretty happy with my team for now, however, I do have some issues I need to address. One of those being that I still own Jarrell Quansah and need to move him on. I want to move him to a 4.5 ish defender but with him now priced at 4.3 I need to free up some funds from someone else. While I want to move Gvardiol on due to his lack of attacking potential so far this season, I want to keep him for Brentford and move him on for Man City’s tougher fixtures in gameweeks five and six.
Therefore I will most likely downgrade Morgan Gibbs-White to a 6 or 5.5 million midfielder with an abundance of options there such as Brighton’s Minteh (5.5) and Adingra (5.5), Ipswich’s Sam Szmodics (6.0), West Ham’s Paqueta (6.0) or Bournemouth’s Semenyo (5.6) amongst some other options. Another option I like less is moving Trent Alexander-Arnold down to Andrew Robertson which gives me 1.0 but I want Trent for his attacking ability. Another option is to sell Alexander Isak who also may go down in value soon due to the number of transfers out, however, his return last gameweek makes me want to give him at least one more week as he has a nice fixture against Wolves.
For now, I am just deciding who I will sell in order to change Quansah to a different and playing defender. Elsewhere in my team will most likely be the same or similar lineup for the next few weeks. The only other key decision will be which midfielder/ attacker I bench and what three defenders I play each week. My strategy for now is to target the fixtures, despite Joao Pedro returning against Arsenal last week. The only exceptions to this will be Trent, Salah and Haaland who I will almost definitely play against every opponent while they are in my team.
