After a solid but not spectacular start to the FPL season I was hoping for a better gameweek two as I picked my opening squad for the first few games not just the first. Fortunately this is exactly what I got. The scoring started in the defence. Despite Dean Henderson only getting a single point as Crystal Palace conceded two goals to West Ham and Manchester City conceding against Ipswich so Gvardiol missed out also, Trent and Robinson both returned for me. Liverpool picked up the clean sheet against Brentford in their 2-0 win for six points for Trent while Antonee Robinson’s assist and two bonus points against Leicester scored me seven points.
Into the midfield and this was where I got most of my points this week. I once again went with a 3-4-3 formation with Morgan Rogers on my bench again. Eberechi Eze was the only player not to return for me in midfield. Morgan Gibbs-White and Emile Smith-Rowe both scored ten points each. Both players got goals and Gibbs-White got two bonus points with Smith-Rowe getting me three and the extra point for Gibbs-White coming via a Nottingham Forest clean sheet. I felt justified going with these picks with their returns this gameweek, especially as they are both differential picks. Elsewhere the inevitable Mohamed Salah once again returned also snagging me ten points via a goal, clean sheet and two bonus points.
Into attack and it was the same three from the previous week with two out of three returning. Alexander Isak is not looking like the great pick he appeared to be as he only scored two points but Joao Pedro’s goal in the win against Manchester United and two bonus points gave me eight points from him. Finally my captain for the week was of course Erling Haaland against Ipswich- no differential pick here for obvious reasons. Although, I will say I was very close to giving the armband to Salah against Brentford which would have been somewhat warranted if it was not for Haaland’s hat trick and three bonus points.
My Gameweek three plan is to bench Joao Pedro in my midfielder/ attacker lineup due to his tough fixture against Arsenal, however, he is a great pick but someone has to miss out for me next week. In defence, I will most likely continue with Trent, Gvardiol and Robinson although Gvardiol’s position change back to a central defender in a back three has really limited his attacking threat so far which is a concern as he costs 6 million. This is something I am monitoring ahead of the next few games. Right now I am holding due to clean sheet potential and thinking of selling soon perhaps to a Pedro Porro.
